Week in Review #1: 20 Years of Scrobbling

There's been one week of 2026 so far and I am going to talk about it. I've long admired Jenn's weekly retros and they mostly make me feel like I'm not doing enough with my time. Maybe if I know I gotta blog about what I've been doing, I'll feel the pressure to do more! This also could be a nice outlet for the things I keep wanting to blog about but not feeling like I could possibly be arsed to put a whole thing together for them.

For example, December 11th marked the 20th birthday of my Last.fm account. Twenty years of scrobbling! That must be my oldest still-active web registration…I only registered john holdun dot com a year or two before that. I've logged listening to 164,000 songs in that time. To commemorate this milestone I downloaded all of my data and tried to do a little science about it. I particularly wanted to visualize the artists that I used to listen to a lot and that I wouldn't even think about queueing up today (my top artists of all time is quite a graveyard). I haven't figured that out yet but I did uncover a couple artists that were important to me in the late 2000s and that I totally forgot about, like Dredg and Anathallo. For years I was trying to remember the alt rock song I listened to a lot in high school that starts with slide guitar. What a time capsule.

I've spent this week and the last few weeks thinking about this live show idea I previously blogged. It's started taking on a shape slightly different than what I wrote about. I probably won't write about it again until I have some kind of demonstration performance to share. Maybe soon! Or you'll never hear about this again lol

Outside of the internet, Amy and I had dinner at Arroyo Chop House in Pasadena this week to commemorate the eighth anniversary of our first date (aww). I try to not eat cows too often but this was maybe the best steak I've ever tasted and I'm still dreaming about it.

Speaking of some of the best steak I've ever tasted, we also went to Japan in December and I have a lot of photos to share from that trip, but first I want to get multi-file uploads working well in my CMS. That's a goal for this week! Hopefully those photos pop up in the feed before the next week in review. Hopefully there is another week in review!
